Hudepohl "Pop-Off" intact zip top (USBC II 77-35) Cincinnati OH, stunning/mint
Hudepohl "Pop-Off" intact zip top (USBC II 77-35) Cincinnati OH, stunning/mint
SOLD $375.00 Sold: Mar 3, 2024 on eBayOriginal Listing Description
Hudepohl "Pop-Off" intact zip top (USBC II 77-35) Cincinnati OH, stunning. This is the slightly harder to find "yellower gold" version of the 12 ounce Hudepohl zip top beer can, as opposed to the slightly more common "oranger gold". Despite being more than 60 years old, you will see very few flaws in this all original indoor can. Compared to the BCCA standard for identification (see url below), this can is nearly mint. Our research suggests only three cans like it have sold in the past few years, two on eBay in 2021 and one on Dan Morean auctions in January 2024, with the two most recent selling for $400 and $456 each. Our starting bid is set below the average of these two cans. This can likely dates to late 1963 for two reasons. First, the tab has rounded edges, which were introduced in late 1963. Second, Hudepohl used the term "Pop-Off" to describe the zip top opening instead of the term "Snap Top", which was used by Pittsburgh Brewing when it introduced the first zip top can for the Iron City brand. According to rustycan(dot com), in May 1963, Pittsburgh Brewing sued its rival Duquesne Brewing for using the term "Snap Top" to describe its pulltab can. By coining its own term "Pop-Off", Hudepohl could avoid the potential for litigation and damages. Please see photos for details on can condition and to confirm identification before bidding.
