KRUEGER FINEST BEER 12oz. CROWNTAINER CONE TOP BEER CAN. WILMINGTON, DELAWARE
SOLD $210.00 Sold: Dec 28, 2023 on eBayOriginal Listing Description
eBay Empty Collectible Can. Contains no beer. RARE KRUEGER FINEST BEER 12OZ. CROWNTAINER CONE TOP STYLE BEER CAN. First brewed in 1858 in Newark, New Jersey. Surviving Prohibition. In 1944 Krueger purchased the old Bavarian Brewery in Wilmington, Delaware. This was one of the first products put out from the canning bottling line. The Delaware location became outdated after only 7 short years and it was shut down in 1951. All usable equipment was moved back to New Jersey. Krueger closed in 1961 and the label was sold to Narragansett. They attempted to brew the same recipe in Cranston R.I. and ship their beer back to Jersey but were unsuccessful and the beer soon disappeared. Krueger is said to be the first beer to be put in cans in America. *Can information: Excellent condition. 2 panel painted label can. IRTP. Entire can is painted instead of just lower portion. No top. Very clean and original bright colors for almost 80 years old. Only minor paint loss with minimal scratches. No rust or dents. This can is a piece of history. Best condition one I have seen. Message me for any special requests. Krueger produced 4 cone tops and 3 crowntainers from Delaware. And only 2 Cones from N.J. This is the only full painted can version. Can has been turned and rotated so that all sides are pictured. Please look carefully at the photos. This is the actual can you receive. Priced a bit high for longer exposure. Empty collectible beer can. Additional cans ship cheap. If the item has noticeable flaws, it will be mentioned in description. Please ask any questions you may have before purchase. I usually respond quite fast. I will combine shipping on multiple purchases to save you money. USA buyers only please. Always leave great feedback or contact me first. I will do everything I can to make you happy. The beer can has a birthday: January 24, 1935. On this Thursday, Americans could buy beer in flat top steel cans for the first time, but only in Richmond, Virginia. This was the first market selected by Gottfried Krueger Brewery to try what was at the time a serious gamble. Would consumers want canned beer after years of glass bottles? After more than 25 years of research and testing, brewers (and can companies) would finally have an answer. Turns out, yes, they did. They wanted it badly. Come summer, Krueger needed American Can, the company that perfected the technology, to produce 180,000 cans a day to meet the demand. The heavy cans could only be opened one way: with a church key, a long piece of metal, pointed at one end, that drinkers used to create two holes in the can's top. One was for drinking, the other to allow air to flow. Until the '60s, the flat top can dominated the market. (*November 1933). (Condition: Pre-Owned)
